artist statement

I have a background in patchwork and quilting although I quickly gravitated towards applique, and have spent the last ten years making one off commissions for people using images that had particular resonance for them and the recipients’. I have recently undertaken an MA in textiles at Bath Spa University and have built on my experience developing my design, drawing, photography and CAD skills. My work marries my love of textiles with new technology to produce images that combine pattern, colour and that are vibrant and distinctive.

The prints can be used as art or furnishings.

I have lived and worked in Bath for the last 25 years, I live with my two children and our ancient black Labrador.

I love colour and light and the joy of being alive, and I  have a vast collection of printed textiles that I also treasure.  I have always tried to incorporate each of these elements within my work.  This work has evolved from my original skills in applique and quilting and my eclectic interest in natural history, anthropology, culture, symbolism, psychology and textile prints,  colour, light and texture.

I have loved the opportunity afforded by the MA course to research and develop my style in a new way.

I am happiest outdoors, working on the allotment or walking and being by the sea.

I am currently working on a series that distils the pleasure of being by the sea in summer.

I am happy to work to commission.
